The UN envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, commend the leader of the Houthi gangs, Abdulmalik al-Houthi, during a television interview with a French agency.
“France 24 ” has an interview with Griffith, affiliated by “Aden news”, in which he discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the results of the recent talks of the UN envoy aimed at returning the parties of the conflict back to the dialogue table.
During the meeting, the TV anchor asked about the identity of the party obstructing the Geneva talks, which were to be held in early September, but Griffiths asserted that the talks did not fail, but that there were urgent circumstances that prevented its success. He said that he had met last week with the leader of the Houthi rebels, Abdulmalik al-Houthi, and assured the envoy that he is looking forward for a chance of new negotiations in the coming period.
The TV anchor asked him again: Can you believe the Houthi claims? He replied: “Yes, I believe the words of Abdulmalik al-Houthi, he is sincere in everything he always tells me.”
In the interview with FRANCE 24, the UN special envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, warned that “critical actions need to be taken now” to avoid a full-blown famine.
Griffiths also expressed hope that the conflict could soon come to an end despite the failure of UN-brokered peace talks in Geneva earlier this month.
