The commander of the security belt militia in Abyan province, Brigadier General Abdul Latif al-Sayyed, left Aden International Airport on his way to the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Local sources suggested that al-Sayyed had been removed from the scene in Yemen because of his involvement in hostilities against the legitimate government.
Al-Sayyed, one of the UAE’s main allies in the south of the country, left the airport of the interim capital Aden on his way to Cairo with a number of his family members on a surprise visit.
Al-Sayyed’s departure comes hours after his forces clashed with presidential protection forces in Ahwar district, southeast of Abyan province.
A military source familiar with the Riyadh agreement said that he is expected to lose his position in the security belt following the implementation of the terms of the military and security annexes to the Riyadh agreement.
