A leader of the armed militias of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) killed on Thursday in clashes with forces of the First Brigade (Presidential Protection) in Ahwar district of Abyan province in the south of the country.
A military source said that the leader in the “Southern Transitional” branch in Ahwar was killed while leading armed groups that attacked forces from the First Brigade (presidential protection), in an attempt to prevent them from passing towards the coastal town of Shukra.
According to the source, elements of both sides were injured in the clash.
The source added that the deadline provided by social and tribal figures in Ahwar ended without making any progress, after the forces of the Southern Transitional Council refused to allow the presidential protection forces to cross.
On Wednesday, about 50 military vehicle under the forces of the First Brigade Presidential protection arrived in the city of Ataq and stopped for a few hours in the city before continuing its way to the province of Abyan.
A source said that this batch of troops will move to the city of Aden to be stationed in the presidential palace in Maashiq, according to the military annex of the Riyadh agreement.
