Armed clashes flared Tuesday between security forces and a militia backed by the United Arab Emirates in the province of Socotra, following an attack on one of the island’ ports.
A security source said that the belt forces backed by the United Arab Emirates tried to storm the port and fired bullets at the Coast Guard forces stationed in the port, which led to violent confrontations.
The source added that the clashes resulted in injury to the leader of the security belt supported by the UAE, while the forces of public security toward to the port to strengthen the Coast Guard forces.
This came one day after the motorcade of the Minister of Fisheries Fahd Kfine and the governor of Socotra Ramzi Mahrous was attacked by an Emirati-backed militia that tried to prevent them from entering the government complex in Qalinsya.
