UAE-backed security forces in the central region of Abyan have launched a campaign of arrests against traders and peddlers from the northern provinces in Lauder city.
Citizens said that the so-called rapid intervening forces in the sector, “Akad” launched an arrest campaign against dozens of street vendors in the city.
According to the newspaper “Aden AlGhad,” the forces transferred the detainees to one of their detention centres on the pretext that they were preparing to blow up the situation if the militia approached the city.
The source pointed out that the campaign targeted the people of the northern regions who came to the city after the war in the past months.
The campaign sparked public anger and widespread condemnation from residents who said many of those arrested were ordinary citizens. Some even took part in countering al-Qaeda when they attacked the city years ago.
Citizens called on the security belt to stop these actions, which they said were unjustified and reflected an offensive picture of Abyan province, which for years has been known for fighting the racist actions.
