According to press reports, the UAE has required- in order to to support General People’s Congress party – that Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh must take over the presidency of the party.
The UAE’s move came after former Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Dagher’s effort to lead the party, which the United Arab Emirates strongly rejects, especially in light of the huge differences between the two sides when Ben Dagher was at the top of the legitimate government.
The reports pointed out that Abu Dhabi is trying to lift international sanctions on Ahmed Ali, and is also funding media campaigns calling for the lifting of sanctions against Saleh’s son, but without gains till the moment.
