Controversial letter sent by Socotra former governor to Emirati official triggers public anger

Local activists shared on social networks a dangerous document sent by the former governor of Socotra to the ruler of Ajman in the UAE.

 

The letter included a request by the former governor of Socotra Salem al-Suqtari to grant the family of Saleh Garida the UAE nationality.

 

The document asked the ruler of Ajman to grant them UAE citizenship to the mentiond family “as those who got it, so that they can live in their home country, the UAE” according to the document.

 

The document, which was published on March 13, 2016, was confirmed by the elder sheikh Socotra Salman Abdullah Shaloulha.

 

This document has provoked angry reactions among the Yemeni people, where many citizens accuse  UAE of seeking to occupy the island of Socotra.
