The United Nations envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith, announced a document he prepared based on political and security mechanisms with implementation guarantees aimed at a ceasefire in Yemen.
In his briefing to the Security Council on Friday, Griffith noted that talks to be held in Sweden at the end of the year would be based on this document.
Griffith said he had received guarantees from the parties to attend the consultations. “We are close to concluding an agreement between the Yemeni parties to release the detainees.”
He said he would visit Sanaa next week to meet the leader of the Huthis; he would also visit the province of Hodeidah, which he said turned into a hot conflict area.
He noted that the negotiations will begin in the coming weeks.
Griffith welcomed the announcement by Yemeni President Abdurbo Mansour Hadi about the need to return to the political path.
