Military and security leaders of the legitimate government left Socotra Island on Monday and headed to the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
A government source said that the military and security leaders left the archipelago, on a Saudi plane.
The delegation includes Brigadier Ali Salmin, Commander of the 1st Brigade (Marine Infantry), Brigadier Saad Salem, Commander of the Third Brigade (Coastal Defense), Colonel Noh Adham, Commander of the Military Police office, and Colonel Faiz Al-Shathi, Director of Security of the Socotra Archipelago.
According to the source, the delegation’s departure came at the request of Yemen presidency from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The source pointed out that the request also included 5 of the “transitional” leaders in the archipelago, but they refused to leave.
The delegation’s departure comes in light of discussions sponsored by the Kingdom in Riyadh, with the aim of resolving the crisis between the legitimate government and the Transitional Council, and implementing the Riyadh agreement signed between them in November of last year.
On June 30, the Governor of Socotra Ramzi Mahrous, accompanied by Minister of Fish Resources Fahd Kfayin, left for the Saudi capital, more than a week after the Emirati-backed transitional forces took control of Hadibu, the archipelago’s capital.
