The governorate of Abyan, in southern Yemen, is witnessing tension between the national army forces and the Emirati-backed transitional militia, after the latter bombed the army’s positions.
A military source said that the militia of the UAE-backed Transitional Council bombed military sites of the army forces on Sunday in the city of Zunjubar, the capital of Abyan province.
The source added: “tensions raised in the locations of the army forces in the (Qarn Al Klassi) area of the coastal town of Shukra, east of Abyan governorate, after their sites were exposed to mortar shelling believed to be fired from the town of (Sheikh Salem) southeast of the city of Zunjubar, where the forces of the transitional are stationed ”
He stated that the shelling did not cause any human or material losses in the army forces, at a time when the formations of the Southern Transitional Council did not claim responsibility for the shelling so far.
The Thunderbolt forces and units of the support brigades of the Southern Transitional Council are stationed in the Sheikh Salem area, which is the first site under the control of the UAE-backed Council towards the Zunjubar Directorate.
Days ago, the governorates of Aden and Abyan witnessed an escalation by the Emirati-backed Southern Transitional Council, after an outbreak of tension between the council forces and the Saudi forces at Aden International Airport.
